Eighth Laws of Cricket
Caught
Example: The batsman hits the ball into the air, and a fielder positioned within the playing area catches it before it touches the ground. The batsman is then declared out caught.
Hit the Ball Twice
Example: The batsman plays a defensive shot, and the ball lands in front of them. In a bid to prevent the ball from hitting their stumps, they use their bat to deflect it away. However, realizing their mistake, they hit the ball again with their bat, attempting to protect their wicket. The fielding side appeals, and the batsman is given out for hitting the ball twice.
Obstructing the Field
Example: The batsman, after hitting the ball into the outfield, intentionally blocks the fielder's path to prevent them from reaching the ball. As a result, the fielding side appeals, and the batsman is given out obstructing the field.
Handled the Ball
Example: The batsman, realizing they have played a loose shot, attempts to stop the ball from hitting the stumps by using their hand. However, the fielding side appeals, and the batsman is given out for handling the ball.
